Growing Taj Mahal Variety Of Rose In my Potted Garden.

Taj Mahal Rose has been named after the famous Indian monument The Taj Mahal one of the wonders of the world, a monument that was built to symbolize eternal love. The Taj Mahal rose is a variety of rose that is grown for its tight compact petals and its bright red stunning color that is a symbol of love hence it has been aptly named as the Taj Mahal Rose. The Taj Mahal Rose plant gives these beautiful large red roses. The buds start of by showing this deep rich burgundy color which later changes to a beautiful well opened velvet red Rose.

Taj Mahal Roses can be easily grown in Pots or containers.Taj Mahal Rose plant is like any other rose plant and loves to be fertilized only then will the plant bloom profusely.Rose Plants prefer soils which are rich with humus and organic matter.

Roses are used to make jams, jellies and conserves.Rose petals are used in salads and  to decorate foods. Roses are diffused and distilled to make essential oils, perfumes and rose water.Rose Hips are used in Beauty products.

This is what i did to prepare the Pot or container to grow my Taj Mahal rose plant,I Made a hole in the bottom of the Pot or Container so that there is no water logging and so that the soil drains well. Then lined  the base with coconut husks or or small pieces of bricks, filled up the pot or container with soil mixed with composted matter till about 1/2 and placed a dried cow-dung pat on the soil mix, topped with little soil, next placed the rose plant on top of the soil and filled up the pot with the remaining soil. You can begin fertilizing the plant regularly with any of the fertilizing options given below.

Fertilization of Rose plants:-water used for washing fish or fish emulsions are good for rose plants, water used for cleaning and washing poultry and meat can be saved and poured into the rose plants, diluted cow urine can be added,cow-dung pats can be broken into small pieces and placed on top of the soil, crushed egg shells can be scattered.Chicken poop can be composted with your regular compost and this mix can be added to your roses.Used Tea Leaves can be washed and collected once you have fair quantity you can sprinkle this over the soil.Coffee grounds can be used in the same way.

Epsom salt contains sulfate and magnesium are important minerals that a rose plant needs, mix 1 tablespoonful of  Epsom salt into a liter of water, use this to water your roses instead of plain water this mix can also be sprayed on the rose foliage.

Burn old newspapers or magazines, coconut husks and shells, twigs, wood chips etc and sprinkle the leftover ash on the soil this ash contains nitrogen and other minerals however don't overdo this part because excess nitrogen can cause yellowing of leaves and burn the roots of your plants or may even kill the plant so be careful apply this ash only once a month it should suffice.

Instead of dumping used egg shells into the waste bin save them, every time to use eggs wash and dry the shells then store them until you have enough to make this wonderful egg shell brew by boiling the shells in water 20 shells for a little over a liter of water because once you boil this mix you need to have at least a liter left, once cool you can pour the water in your rose plants this brew will give your roses a boost of calcium and potassium.

Boil a tablespoon of Tea leaves in one liter of water cool this tea mix and pour it in your rose plants.Tea leaves contain tannin, which is acidic they also contain nitrogen which is useful for the growth of rose plants.Same goes with coffee grounds as well.

For Homemade spray to get rid of mealy bugs, aphids, scale, spider mites or white flies but first try a patch test on the plant to check that it does not burn it before going ahead and spraying it all over only after you ascertain everything is fine you use the spray all over,to make the spray mix 1 tsp of vegetable oil with 1 tsp baby shampoo or dish washing liquid add a tsp of baking soda to a large cup of water mix well and pour into a spray bottle use this spray all over the rose plant, make sure you get beneath the leaves as well, leave it for an hour then water it down with a hose,do this twice a week until you get rid  of all the pests

Compost made from banana peels, mushroom waste, potato peels, egg shells, shrimp shells are good for rose plants this compost is loaded with natural potassium and magnesium.

For a super healthy rose plant before planting it into a pot or container prepare the base and on top of a thin layer of potting soil crack 2 to 3 whole eggs with shells and all,now layer again with a thin layer of potting soil and place the rose plant and fill the pot or container up with more potting soil.

When Growing Rose plants in containers or pots its always a good idea to trim or prune down the stems completely this will promote new growth and the plant wont end up growing wild with long stems that look lanky.

                                                              Happy Gardening To All !!
